Nowcasting is a short-range weather forecast for up to 6 hours, made using frequently updated local measurements. Nowcasting can be made using automated update processes or manual interpretation.
Nowcasts can achieve better forecast accuracy than standard weather model simulations for the next 1 to 3 (in some cases 6) hours. For lead times above 3 hours, high- resolution model simulations computed 6 to 48 hours in advance are statistically more accurate than nowcasts, because they consider physical processes in the atmosphere. For locations which have more than 1 year of measurement data, in addition to nowcasts, model output statistics (MOS) may be used to further improve the forecast.
Most of the nowcast information presented by meteoblue is based on the analysis of measurements automatically updated from local stations, radar or satellite.
